Every day
And people mourn
And people rebuild
Mourn and
RebuildI can do that
But where
Do I Rebuild
Not in same place
Where disaster struckThat place
That life, that marriage
Is no longer
Available
It has to be
SomewhereElse
And what
Do I Rebuild
Not a house
Designed exactlyLike the one lost
Those plans no longer exist
The new house must be
Different
Different place
Different houseI can do that
But when
Do I Rebuild
Seems like wasted effort
To rebuild anythingUntil I’m sure
The fire is out
And how
Can I everBe sure
Of
A place safe enough
Plans solid enough
A time right enough
To avoid future disaster
The answer is
I can never Be sure
Of that
Rebuilding
AnythingAnywhere
Anytime
Will always
Involve
Risk
And I guess
That’s always been trueThough I’ve never
Had to acknowledge it
Before
