It is easy to find
Those who have replaced
Their childhood faith
With no faith

It is not easy to find

Those who have replaced

With authentic faith

Not easy to find

Those who have done
The painful work of
Sorting flawed beliefs
Salvaging healthy beliefs
And come out stronger

The letting it go

Seems more easy, more clean
But in the end
More empty

The sorting it out

Is hard, lonely, hostile
So fiercely are beliefs
Serving multiple purposes
Protected

Easy to see why

People stay where they are
No faith or all faith
Questions and all
For too long

Easy to see why
People thrown into the
Hard middle ground of life
Quickly make their way back
To the side that
Offends them least

Because at least

There is company
In the extremes

Not easy to be the person

Who needs to know
Why we say
This is what happens
To those not walking with God
Instead of
This is what happens
To us all

Not easy to point out that just maybe

We never say
This is what happens to us all
Because if we said that
We would have to say more
About the character of God
About the character of us
About how things work

And we don’t really know

With certainty
How things work

We would have to say more

But we don’t want to say more
So we say the wrong things
And at the same time
We don’t say enough

Flooding the world with

Strong opinions
Built on faulty logic
Offering answers that are
Easy to find
But impossible to accept
