Beyond

There is a
Black and lonely
Place of grief
That exists
Beyond tears
Beyond the comfort of God’s words
Possibly beyond the reach of God
Definitely beyond the reach of people
Though they sacrifice much to comfort

Frighteningly beyond

Unexplainably beyond

And if you are there

The best you can do
Is hope beyond hope
To get back to
The place of tears
The place where God can comfort
The place where people can comfort
The place where there is air
To help you breathe
Through the pain

Still a difficult

Place of grief
To be sure
But not as difficult
As the place beyond
