It’s probably best
Not to tell those who grieve  
That the place they are standing in
Doesn’t exist
Or that the only refuge they have found
Isn’t a good place to rest

Not to advise
Or give detailed instruction
On how to navigate
Around a place
You have not yet been

It’s probably best

If you are going to be near
To just sit quietly
And listen for however long
And not correct every confusion
Right that minute

It’s probably best
Not to judge
Or advise
Or solve

It’s probably best

To just sit together
In the uncomfortable
Unknown

It’s probably best

And at the same time
It’s nearly impossible
For people to do

And that is something
That makes
Grief heavier
Loss lonelier
