If you don’t face
What life brings
Head on

If you don’t stand

The rushing waters
Fall over you
Feel the force
Of the impact
Let the pain of life
Change you

It will change you anyway

The way that rocks

Hiding under a waterfall
Are shaped anyway
Carved out
In peculiar shapes
By constant force

I think maybe

Those that hide
From pain
Are changed
In ways that feel half done
Changed in part
But never in whole

I think I see

Signs of that now
In others and
Sometimes in myself

I think it’s hard

To give in to pain
To give up control
Without giving up purpose

Hard to let pain

Take you over
And change you fully

Easier to hide

Turn away from pain
And be changed then
Only in part
